Take Five with Sabina Keppel: Why the Graduate Diploma of Early Childhood Education is a Gateway to a Fantastic Career!

Welcome to Our First GDEC Cohort!

We recently welcomed our first cohort of Graduate Diploma of Early Childhood Education (GDEC) students at Lead Institute of Higher Education. To celebrate, we asked Sabina Keppel, our Course Director, to take five from her busy schedule and share why she believes this course is a fast track to a rewarding and impactful career.

Sabina brings a rich background in Primary, Early Childhood, and Adult Education. Her philosophy centres on education as a lifelong pursuit and a pathway to becoming the best version of oneself. She’s passionate about helping learners set their own goals and reflect on their journeys.

Five Reasons to Consider a Career in Early Childhood Education:

• Make a Lasting Impact — early childhood teachers shape the foundational years of a child’s life. The relationships and learning experiences you create can influence a child’s development for years to come.
• Fast Track to a New Career — the GDEC is a focused, one-year qualification that equips you with the practical skills (including 60 days industry placement) and theoretical knowledge to enter the workforce quickly, ideal for career changers ready to make a move.
• High Demand, High Reward — with growing recognition of the importance of early learning, qualified educators are in demand across Australia. It’s a career with strong job prospects and meaningful work.
• Diverse Career Pathways — from classroom teaching to curriculum development, leadership roles, and policy work, this field offers a wide range of opportunities to grow and specialise.
• Join a Supportive Community — early childhood education is built on collaboration. You’ll join a passionate community of educators, families, and professionals all working together to support children’s learning and wellbeing.
